Bruins 29 vs Pirates 19

Bruins 29 Pirates 19
The Pirates seemed to be on their way to their 2nd win of the season Saturday they led at the half 12-8. The Bruins scored on their 1st drive of the game and then the Pirates took charge scoring on their next 2 possessions and completely shutting down the Bruins. It was a very good half with Beast scoring on 2 long runs and Ware and Jordan destroying the opposing O line. But then the wheels fell off and the Bruins scored 2 times in the 3rd quarter and once in the 4th to take the win. The scrappy Pirates did manage to put together a drive in the 4th quarter capped with a 30 yard touchdown run by Beast but it wasn't enough.

Gophers 26 - Pirates 12

In the late afternoon game the Pirates fell to the Gophers 26-12. The Pirates started out with a 40 yard kick off return and were up 6-0 after just 1 play. The defense held strong for their 1st series and then on the 2nd defensive series they stopped the Gophers inside the 10, but then the wheels fell off. On the 2nd play on offense the Pirates fumbled the hand off and the Gophers recovered on the 3 yard line. The Gophers took advantage and the lead 2 plays later. The pirates couldn't get into a groove and overcome their mistakes and the Gophers defense played a really good game. In the 4th quarter with very few plays left in the game the Pirates mounted a drive for pride with D-Mack and Ware leading the way running back Beast punched it in from the 20. With 2 games left the Pirates will need to work really hard to win the next 2 to have any chance to make the playoffs. We’ll see if we have what it takes after the bye week we are now in Playoff mode

Pirates 39- Rampage 0

In a battle between 2 teams who were 0-2 someone was going to win and the Pirates took charge on the 1st play of the game Beast took the opening kick off 44 yards to to the end zone and we were off to the races. Beast had 4 touchdowns and Jordan had 2 both played a very solid game. Some of the highlights of the game. Taylor rushing for 4 yards on an end around and 2 on a blast through the middle, and then Sebastian almost getting in on his attempt for the extra point and then gaining 1 –2 yards on his carry through the middle. QB Angel had a very nice run negated by a block in the back hopefully we’ll get him in the end zone soon. The defense led by Ware didn’t allow a single 1st down and forced 4 fumbles and recovered 1.  Ware and and Ethan controlled the line od scrimmage driving the offensive linemen backwards and disrupting every play. On the few plays that did cross the line of scrimmage if they ran left Jr. was there to make the tackle of turn them in and on the right Animal did a great job of turning them in to either Beast or Jordan It was a very good showing and hopefully a sign of things to come

Jayhawks 25 vs Pirates 19

It didn’t look good in the beginning when on the 1st play on offense the Jayhawks stripped the ball and took it in for a TD. But the Pirates kept working hard and answered each touchdown with one of their own Running back Daigan had the majority of the carries and 2 great runs for touchdowns. Fullback Jordan had a very nice touchdown run of about 30 yards which tied the game and left the Jayhawks with 6 plays in the game the defense tried to hold them off and force overtime, but on the second to last play of the game the pirates were called for a late hit on 2 players which gave the Jayhawks the ball inside the 5 with 1 play left and unfortunately the Jayhawks scored on a broken play. Giving the Pirates their 2nd loss

Lobos 32 vs Pirates 12

In our 1st battle of the season the Pirates fell to the Lobos 32-12. It was a freezing cold start to the spring season. There were a few Pirates who didn’t think they would survive the cold, but with the help of some resourceful parents and the competitive hearts that make these boys love football they all made it through the entire game.

The Lobos started on offense and the Pirates defense did extremely well but on the 9th play of the drive on 4th and 25 the Lobos running back broke a tackle and sprinted into the end zone. The Pirates answered with a 3 play scoring drive ad Beast broke around the end for a 30 yard touchdown.  But the Pirates couldn’t keep pace with the Lobos who scored 4 times in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.  Then came what coaches believe is going to define this team. At the beginning of the 4th quarter coach Scott told them there was 1 quarter left and Beast said are we winning , I told him no and asked but who’s having fun they all raised their hands. So I said to them let’s stop them and score so we can win the 4th quarter. The defense tightened up  with Ware making 3 big tackles and stopped the tough Lobos after a 7 play drive. Then it happened on 3rd  down we had a good snap then QB Angel handed off to Beast, who took the ball outside broke a few tackles and 40 yards later crossed the goal line and with 3 plays left the Lobos took a victory kneel. But the Pirates who lost the game were the victors they accepted the challenge and they won the 4th quarter and beat the cold. No coach could ask for a better result in a loss.

 Great job boys and parents

Parent Letter

Welcome to the Pirates

I am Coach Scott Bradley. I have been coaching in TJFL since 1992. I have no children on the team and because of that every non X player has the opportunity to try out for every position and the best player in my opinion will play in each position. Ultimately every player will have a starting position. I believe we as coaches must find each players strengths and weaknesses and strive to make them better every practice.  It is critical for players to make all practices because they cannot learn if they are not there. Players missing practice could miss playing time come game day  I expect my players to keep their grades up and behave at home and school and upon parents requests I will take disciplinary actions

I expect parents and player to take this commitment very seriously, and be at all practices and games and arrive at least 10 minutes before every practice and be in full pads with practice pants and the practice jerseys on.

On Game days all players need to show up 1 hour prior to the scheduled game time. Before games we say a little prayer that goes like this

Dear Lord, please bless all the players on the field today and help them play to the best of their ability Amen

Hopefully this doesn’t offend anyone

I NEED A TEAM MOM No pay lots of responsibility and lots of fun

A few rules for parents
